The restaurant in Beijing's Forbidden City (the Imperial Palace) began a trial operation on Saturday, according to a report in the Beijing Times. The restaurant located in the newly-opened Dongchangfang Customer Service Zone in the northern part of the Forbidden City mainly offers Lamian, a typical handmade noodle in China, which is dough stretched to form fine noodles. However, the restaurant didn't see its expected customer peak on the first day - just 100 people bought food there, partly because of high prices. A tourist, Pan, who had a meal in the restaurant, told the Beijing Times that the noodles tasted delicious and the service was good, but the price was a little expensive. If it were cheaper, more people would come and buy, he said. According to the report, a bowl of noodles is priced at 30 yuan (about 4.4 US dollars) in the Forbidden City, while in most of China's restaurants, Lamian sells for 10 yuan or even less. The Forbidden City, Beijing's most famous tourism attraction opened the Dongchangfang Customer Service Zone occupying a floor space of 1400 square metres on August 6, where customers can buy varied souvenirs such as silk, porcelain and lacquer work.
