| US Educators Connect With China Through 'Chinese Bridge' |
|
A special ceremony to welcome a delegation of 430 educationists from the US to China is held in Beijing's Confucius Institute Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
"Yeah--!" the crowd gave back a loud positive yes when Gaston Caperton, president of College Board, posed that interesting question. The crowd contained a delegation of 430 educators from the United States, who are here in China on a special visit called "Chinese Bridge for US Schools". Though most of them only know what they've read about China before they came here, now they have the chance to meet the people and some Chinese teachers and they will also visit communities all over China in the following week to see more of China and learn what they can do in their own communities. People who may have had totally different understandings of China will discover different things and find the importance of learning Chinese culture and language, said Caperton. He added, after they go back to the US, they will start programs in their communities through which they will learn Chinese language and culture. Jointly run by Hanban, the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International, and the American College Board, the activity is approaching its fourth year. To date, over 2000 school principals and educators from school districts across the United States have come to China to take part in language and cultural exchange programs.
