Police shot and arrested a man who kidnapped and wounded his former lover, while the hostage died in hospital Monday in east China's Jiangsu Province.

Kidnapper Kills Woman in East China  

The suspect surnamed Yu were reported to have stabbed the woman surnamed Fang for a dozen times in a grocery in Nanjing City, capital of Jiangsu, police said.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving the report at about 5:42 p.m. and started persuading the kidnapper to surrender, but Yu kept holding his knife at Fang's neck.

Police shot and injured Yu and rushed the two to the hospital. Yu was not in danger, but Fang died for losing too much blood, police said.

Initial investigations showed Yu had disputes with Fang after the two lovers broke up.
