Scientists warn that, romantic candlelight dinner or luxury aroma bath may be harmful to your health. Most kinds of candles produce poisonous substances when burning. These substances can lead to cancer, asthma and eczema.

Researchers say, lighting a candle once in a while is harmless, but people should avoid to light candles often in bathroom or rooms that are lack of ventilation.

Most of candles sold in Britain (including scented candles) are made of paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum industry. It will release potentially toxic chemicals, such as toluene and benzene. The expensive beeswax and soy wax are not found hazardous substances in the test.

Ahmed Hamidi, a doctor from University of South Carolina of America, said, “Lighting a candle occasionally, its volatile matter will not affect you, but lighting lots of candles every year or in consecutive years, or often lighting candles around bath tub in a poor ventilation bathroom will cause healthy problem. ”
